Circuit Protection Devices

Mersen has launched new circuit protection devices that fit the 1000 V DC and 1500 V DC photovoltaic electrical installations. Among them, HelioProtection range is suitable for markets where power levels exceed 100 kWc, and includes fuses and fuse holders made up of more than 3 strings, but also lightning arresters and cut-off switches for 1000 V DC and 1500 V DC systems (HP15NH 1500 V DC 3L fuses).

Comply with the standards applicable to photovoltaic installations

Additionally, Mersen releases new 1XL and 2XL fuses, ranging from 50 to 250 A, suitable for low-power installations. They feature a 20% reduction in heat-related energy loss. These limited dissipation fuses are installed on busbars or in a fuse holder that exists in 2 types: one with an open base and the other protected against inadvertent contact. The entire range is compliant with IEC and UL standards. Last, Mersen offers HelioProtection fuse holder with rotary gripper, made for cylindrical fuses from 1 to 32 A, and a new 1500 V DC type 1 and type 2 lighting arrester, engineered to eliminate the need for a protective fuse upline of the installation.

Mersen Electrical Power presents an extensive HelioProtection program that comprises 1500 VDC overvoltage protection devices for the protection of large photovoltaic production facilities, large scale DC or stand-alone (off-grid) installations. Among them, fuses, NH fuses, surge protection devices (SPDs), power distribution blocks (PDB) and DC switches are available. In addition, the HelioProtection range of gPV fuses is also enriched thanks to two NH-style gPV fuses, 1XL and 2XL fuses that work from 50 to 250 A, for low power applications.

Optimal voltage protection of sensitive electronics

Regarding overcurrent protection for inverter & storage, Mersen offers EVpack-fuse and M-fuse as fast-acting DC fuses engineered to meet specific needs in EV/HEV and battery storage systems. They are protected from 100 to 1000 VDC and up to 600A with Minimum Breaking Capacity. The HS-ES product line features a high cycling performance DC protection device which clears both high and low-fault current at 1000 VDC in less than 1 ms. Last, the SB PCB is a plug-in surge protection for PCBs. It is a series of socket bases that allows for integration of IEC surge protection cartridges directly on printed circuit boards.

Electrical Protection Solutions For Data Centers, Renewable Energy and Charging

DC power systems are experiencing rapid growth. The need for efficient and simplified electrical protection solutions has become increasingly important. Applications such as energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, data centers and renewable energy systems require optimized AC/DC performance and flexible integration.

At PCIM 2026 Mersen is presenting its latest generation of high-performance fuses. The products offer optimized AC/DC performance and were specifically designed for the rapidly growing DC power systems market, while maintaining the fast-acting performance of Mersen AC legacy fuses. The high-performance fuses were developed in close collaboration with leading companies in the fields of energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and data centers.

The high-performance fuses combine the best AC/DC electrical characteristics in a single compact housing. This design not only saves space for equipment manufacturers and offers great flexibility in installation – it also significantly simplifies their procurement process. Whereas they previously needed two different fuse types for AC and DC applications, only one is now required. The product range covers a very wide range of rated currents, and the fuses can be used as standard AC fuses, aR fuses or fast-acting fuses.

Designed for Power Conversion and Key Applications

Developed in close collaboration with leading companies, these high-performance fuses are fully aligned with real-world application requirements. The primary application area for Mersen’s new high-performance fuses is power electronics, power conversion systems like but not limited to inverters, SST, CS and MCS. These systems convert direct current – e.g., from PV and wind energy plants – into grid-compatible alternating current. All high-performance fuses undergo rigorous quality testing, most of which is conducted in Mersen’s own UL recognized test laboratory and external specialized institutes. The new high-performance fuses are manufactured on fully automated production lines in accordance with the latest technical standards (IEC, UL, CCC, RoHS, REACH, WEEE).

Mersen’s latest design was developed with a focus on improving quality while streamlining manufacturing and strengthening supply chain efficiency. Mersen also provides users with a range of data from simulation processes that demonstrate the fuse’s behavior in a customer-specific application. This allows the products to be optimally selected to match requirements of the users.

PV Components for 1500VDC Applications

Mersen has recently introduced the first comprehensive portfolio of PV components rated for 1500VDC applications. These applications are utility-scale ones mainly in solar farms. In their global differentiating platform of passive components, Mersen Electrical Power offer a wide offering of solution branded HelioProtection® for solar PV market . It encompasses gPV fuses and holders (from 600VDC up to 1500VDC rating), DC switches and Surge Protective Devices.

Since Intersolar Europe 2015 Mersen have launched in the market:

  • New 1500VDC-rated blade-style gPV fuses for direct bolt mounting onto standardized power busbars. These new gPV solutions can be optionally fitted with a striker enabling a remote control capability via a microswitch. With this option the customer benefits from both shorter time of mounting and remote control feature.
  • New HP15M cylindrical gPV fuses with 10x85mm dimensions. These fuses are approved by both IEC (60269-6) and UL ( Listed UL2579) standards. For combiner box application it is recommended to mount these fuses onto brand-new US15M1HEL holders.
  • New STPT2-40K1500V-YPV(M) Surge-Trap® SPD. All Surge-Trap® Pluggable PV solutions are reversible and they include the optimized dynamic thermal disconnection system. The 1500VDC SPD does therefore not require any back-up fuse, just like the 600VDC and 1000VDC models of the same series.

Flexible & Compact Low Voltage Switches

Flexible & Compact Low Voltage Switches

Flexible & Compact Low Voltage Switches

Mersen Electrical Power launches a global line of premium compact low voltage switchgear. This range is global and encompasses both Ul and IEC standard products for AC and DC applications. A special focus has been made on design: new design in terms of compactness and modularity, new economical design providing to the customer a very cost competitive offering and new design in terms of product branding with the orange stripe as an accent.

Three sub-ranges build this line: fusible switches, non-fusible switches and PV-rated switches. For both fusible and non-fusible switches one key feature is the higher ratings versus competition (up to 4000A for non-fusible and up to 1250A for fusible). Beyond space savings result of the compactness design, flexibility is another key feature. Flexibility in installation due to the complete range of accessories and flexibility in logistics as well consequence of reduced part numbers enabling a more fluent ordering process and stock control.

The supplier has targeted end use markets, control panels in power distribution and industry for fusible and non-fusible switches, PV power generation for PV-rated DC switches. For these latter the application is the disconnection of individual strings, individual arrays and PV inverter from the DC side.

    Frequently Asked Questions

gG fuses are general-purpose fuses that protect against both overload and short-circuit. aM fuses are motor-circuit fuses that protect against short-circuit only — they are designed to withstand motor starting currents and must be combined with a separate overload device such as a thermal relay. If you are protecting cables or general circuits, choose gG; for motor circuits with their own overload protection, choose aM.
